We are now finalizing our medical and dental mission trip for this February. We will be going back to San Lucas Toliman from February 4 -12th which will include the extra day in Antigua on the 11th.

For those who haven’t been to San Lucas, it is a town that borders Lake Atitlan which has been called one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.   San Lucas is a typical Guatemalan village, but the mission has been there for over 40 years and has made a tremendous difference in the people’s lives.  There is a women’s vocational training program, a coffee coop that the villagers work, reforestation, and different construction projects at various stages of being complete.  Our effort will focus on medical and dental outreach as well as a medical surgical team that will work out of the hospital surgical rooms.  We will take doctors, nurses, support staff, dentists, assistants, hygienists, and anyone who is bilingual.  There will also be some outreach volunteers that will be a part of the other programs such as construction of homes and kitchens.

More details will come but this is our first invitation for you to share with anyone who may be interested. This trip is a smaller one than previous trips so if you know someone else who is interested let me know and I will get them on a list for more information. If you already know you’re committed, then it is time to put in your deposit.

The total cost of the ground package is $800 and will include what it always has:  transportation to San Lucas for the mission and then on to Antigua at the finish, all meals at the mission, rooms in San Lucas and Antigua, and all tips and a donation to the Mission group to support their efforts.   Of course, you can donate an additional personal amount if you feel so called but they are not expecting it.  We need $400 down now and the balance by December 1st.   One thing that isn’t arranged or included is your van/taxi fare from Antigua to Guatemala City on Sunday.

That can be fully arranged by the hotel we are staying in while you are in Antigua and the usual cost is around $40.  With all the various departure times, it is better for us to let you handle that one.  The flights are currently wide open but the prices almost certainly will increase the longer you wait to book.  Please arrange to be in Guatemala City no later than 2:00 on Saturday the 4th and we will board buses to go to San Lucas that day.  The flight that we have booked is referenced below for those of you flying out of Dallas.

We are looking for some more surgical nurses and a sonographer so put the word out.
